Through partnerships with peers, Jamal co – founded two (2) Deaf led NPOs, (Deaf Sports Trinidad and Tobago and Voice of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing of Trinidad and Tobago), who seek to promote Equality, Human Rights and inclusion. Jamal continues to work with organisations and families in promoting awareness and acceptance of Deafness and Sign Language. He currently serves as a Director with the Consortium of Disabled Organisations (CODO) and Vice President of the Trinidad and Tobago Chapter of Disabled Peoples International (TTDPI).

Jamal has recently completed his Diploma in Agriculture with the University of Trinidad and Tobago. With this new knowledge, he hopes to develop Agricultural programmes that cater to the diverse learning needs of Persons Living with Disabilities and encourage entrepreneurship.

Jamal Legen’s personal motto is “Being Deaf does not stop me from doing anything. Ok, so I can’t hear, but I can do everything else. I will always find a way.” His aim is to encourage Deaf/ Hard of Hearing youths to dream big, and to support them as they push towards their goals.
